In sickness…

December 1, 2011

So the winter fell over Silvermoon, the sunspire glimmered of snow and frost. Ellielle stood by the window, looking out over the snowy streets. The Royal exchange had been cleared from snow and they were making a skating rink in one of the corners. Winter veil was approaching fast and Ellielle was thinking of what to get the kids. The sound of Yathriels coughing made her flinch and turn around, looking at the small pale elf girl under the big covers. – Better keep her warm, the clerics had said.

It had been years since they said she was gonna get well before spring. For 10 years Aelon had sat by Yathriels side all night, keeping an eye on her, giving her bloodthistle tea and trying to cure the fever with wet rags. A couple of days Yathriel had been out of bed, playing with her siblings for a couple of hours or just sneaking around with the nannies. Ellielle cherished the times when Yathriel got out of bed, but the days after a good one, Yathriel was worse then ever. Her breathing was heavy and wheezy, her forehead was burning hot. Ellielle changed the wet cold cloth on Yathriels forehead.

There was a knock on the door and one of the nannies walked in, holding Miep in the hand. – Lady Sunwing, the little one wants to give you something. Miep looked up at her mother and held out a little clayfigure. Ellielle looked down at her youngest child and picked up the clayfigure. – Its a dragonhawk, Miep lisped out, Like Akkos! Her face lit up as she mentioned her beloved brothers name. Ellielle smiled – Very pretty, thank you. She said to her daughter. Miep nodded fast and turned around in the doorway and ran out to the kitchen again. Ellielle looked up at the nanny and nodded. -Thank you for looking after her so well, she need some attention too. Are the twins in the library? -No my lady, they’re out with the magisters, the nanny responded.

Ellielle looked out the window again and sighed. She did not approve of this “training” her husband set their children up to. Aelon had told the twins that one of the magisters of the silver circle could teach them about everything they’ve read about. Arcane could be harmful for kids their age. Ellielle looked over at Yathriel coughing in her bed. – Tell Aelon to get in here when he comes back… She paused for a while as Yathriel tried to open her eyes. – And tell Yaelon to go find Akko, he should be out in Eversong forest with the farstriders.

After finding his precious dragonhawk, Akko had been like consumed by the farstriders, he wanted to learn everything they had to offer, from tracking to warfare. He had nurtured the dragonhawk well and its grown to be a grand companion to her son. Many times Akko has told the story of how he caught it, he fascinated Miep over and over again, she couldn’t stop listening to his stories. Miep seemed to love all her siblings and listened with a wide smile on her face when anyone of them started speaking. She was the only one, except themselves, that could stand the twins stories about magic.

Yaelon had gotten bored with his younger siblings a long time ago. He was too busy becoming an adult, he had moved on from following his father around in the Silver Circle to becoming friends with the other members followers, among others Kael´Thas, Anasterians son, starting up their own counsil. Yaelon was rarely home anymore, he was planning on finding his own house closer to the spire. Ellielle tried her best to get Yaelon involved in his siblings, but she knew deep inside that Yathriel being sick was an eliminating factor for the older kids. Both Yaelon and Akko, soon also the twins would be out of the house, followed by little Miep.

There was a quick knock on the door and Aelon opened the door, he looked down at Yathriel, so small and pale. – Hows my girls today? He said smiling as he walked over to the chair next to Yathriels bed, he had Miep hanging on the back of his robe, giggling and holding on for the love of her life. Aelon pretended like he hadn’t noticed her hanging on to him. Ellielle walked over to him, patting Miep on the head while she leaned in to give her husband a kiss. – She hasn’t said anything all day, she’s barely been awake longer then a couple of minutes. Aelon nodded while taking a deep breath. – Ive heard about the Nightelven medicine, they have druids that uses the nature to heal with. Maybe they can help our daughter, Ill send after one tomorrow. Ellielle nodded back while grabbing Miep by the hand, -We need to go cook dinner for our men, she took Miep with her out towards the kitchen while Aelon sat down, starting to tell Yathriel the stories of how his day been. Ellielle looked back thru the doorway as Miep pulled on her arm to get her to walk faster. She felt an ache in her heart as she watched her husband, leaning over their daughter.

If nothing good happened soon, Yathriel would probably not see the summer again.
